Confidentiality of health records require that health care providers and their associated develop a series of protection procedures that will guarantee the confidentiality and security of protected health information (PHI) whenever this is handled or shared. The confidentiality of these records should be protected in all forms of information transmission including paper, oral, electronic, and any other form. Employers are not excluded from receiving or retrieving health information regarding their workers, but are limited to only the minimum information necessary to conduct business through laws and statutes such as HIPAA.
