SureHire explains Disability

A disability can be categorized according to eight classifications, namely, mobility and physical impairments, spinal cord impairment, brain damage, vision disability, hearing disability, cognitive or learning problems, psychological disorders and invisible disabilities.

People with disabilities are protected by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The act provides for the inclusion of disabled people into everyday life activities by affording them equal opportunities as those who do not have disabilities. The act prohibits discrimination based on a person being deemed as disabled in any of the eight classifications mentioned above. Under the act, people with disabilities must be given equal opportunity in promotions, benefits and recruitment. The employer must also accommodate current and potential employees with disabilities in the workplace where reasonably practicable.
