Dismissal from employment is an action taken by the employer. Some states permit an employee to be dismissed at-will, meaning that the employee may be terminated at any time for any reason. However, this termination must be done in compliance with state and federal employment and anti-discrimination laws. In addition, an individual employment contract between employer and employee may prohibit at will termination.
