SureHire explains Dismissal

Dismissal from employment is an action taken by the employer. Some states permit an employee to be dismissed at-will, meaning that the employee may be terminated at any time for any reason. However, this termination must be done in compliance with state and federal employment and anti-discrimination laws. In addition, an individual employment contract between employer and employee may prohibit at will termination. Union membership may also affect the conditions under which an employee may be dismissed.
