Definition - What does Ergonomic Program mean?
An ergonomics program is a step by step process that seeks to identify, prevent, analyze, and minimize any risk to employee safety in the workplace as it specifically relates to how carrying out workplace tasks impacts the individual's ability to perform their assigned tasks, and how those tasks, in combination with the workplace environment, impact the employee's health and well-being . This is often a collaborative effort between employers and employees, and usually involves employee safety training, changes in procedures to reflect increased awareness of risks, and implementation of improved procedures to prevent identified risks.
SureHire explains Ergonomic Program
An ergonomics program looks at the specific details of the workplace environment and tasks assigned to the employee in relation to how they can impact the well-being of the employee, as well as how the employee's work performance can be affected.
An ergonomics program may include an assessment of design of worksites and duties that could cause potential injury to an employee, or an analysis of a workplace injury that has already occurred, the creation of steps to prevent such an outcome in the future, implementation of new procedures, and the education of employees in the new procedures.
Such a program must include direct, concise communication and cooperation between employers and employees in order to identify risks and redefine procedures to counter them. Examples of such risks include the potential for falls, repetitive strain injuries, and any other situations that may cause an employee harm in the workplace.
