Evidence-based information, within the context of occupational health and safety, refers to gathering a base of solid and reliable scientific evidence about a group of individuals when applying a determined health care program and implementing policies related to health and safety initiatives.

Evidence-based information is closely related to evidence-based practice and evidence-based medicine. The latter two are the application of health measures or programs relying on the evidence-based information gathered beforehand. Evidence-based practice is often composed of three major principles:
- The best available information or research evidence on what treatment works and why
- Clinical judgement and experience to identify each individual's unique health and safety requirements as well as the potential risk and benefits of intervention
- Worker values and preferences
