Definition - What does Kinetic Testing mean?
Kinetic testing is a method used by a qualified medical practitioner or physical therapist to check whether or not joints are functioning properly. It is performed by the therapist touching the joint area and then asking the patient to move in specific ways. This allows the therapist or physical to feel the movement of the joint under specific conditions and tell if the joint is moving incorrectly. This can be helpful after an injury or when a patient complains of joint pain to assess the health of the joint. Kinetic testing is often called by a specific test name referring to the joint being tested, such as the stock test for the SI joint.
SureHire explains Kinetic Testing
Kinetic testing is a way to asses the health and motion of a joint non-invasively and without the use of expensive equipment. While kinetic testing an be very useful in seeing there is a problem with the joint, it is not able to tell the practitioner the cause of the joint malfunction. Kinetic testing is a first step in tracking down the cause of a problem the patient is experiencing.
One of the most common joints to test in this manner is the sacroiliac joint, the joint between the spine an pelvis. How this joint moves can point to certain issues when dealing with back pain and is a way to quickly rule out (or in) certain possible diagnoses.
