Definition - What does Lactate Threshold mean?
Lactate threshold defines the limit of maximal exertion performed by a muscle during intense and vigorous exercise. Lactate threshold reflects the disproportion of adequate oxygen circulating in the blood while an exponential development of lactate (often called lactic acid) begins. People will experience a burning sensation from active muscles attempting to counterbalance the inefficient oxygen cycle, and in that manner the body announces it has reached its lactate threshold.
SureHire explains Lactate Threshold
Lactate threshold describes the maximal level for muscles to metabolize energy from oxygenated blood while, inversely, producing lactate (lactic acid) causing the muscles to tire at a faster rate. People tend to experience this phenomenon when reaching their full capacity to work out for an extended duration resulting in burning fatigue at the site of the active muscles. This is a form of anaerobic exercise meaning that the body’s oxygen feedback system is undershooting the required level needed to extend motor activity while filtering the accumulation of carbon dioxide.
