Definition - What does Parole Violation mean?
A parole violation is a charge brought about by a parolee's failure to comply with one or more conditions of their parole during the parole period. The violation of these terms is reported by the assigned parole officer and the severity and outcome is then assessed and handled by the parole board according to a standard procedure. Violation of parole can result in the board revoking a parolee's reintegration and ordering them to complete their sentence in prison.
SureHire explains Parole Violation
When a person is granted parole, they are required to abide by statutory laws as well as comply with specific conditions to support their rehabilitation. These conditions usually include regular visits with the parole officer, drug and/or alcohol testing, and to refrain from certain behaviors relating to the crime.
When the parolee is found in violation of any of these conditions, they are required to be given written response to the alleged contravention. A preliminary hearing is then held by the parole board to assess the merits of the allegations. Where the board deems the allegations to be legitimate, another hearing is held after which a written statement of their findings is issued to the parolee. The outcome may result in either the parolee being permitted to continue their parole or in having their parole revoked and returning to incarceration for the remainder of their sentence.
