Definition - What does Positive Test Result mean?
A positive test result, when conducting drug or alcohol testing, means that there is a presence of a specific target in the sample. Most tests have a minimum cutoff level below which the target substance would not return a positive test result.
SureHire explains Positive Test Result
A positive test result occurs when the drug or alcohol test detects that the client/donor has the alcohol or drugs, or their metabolites, in their system. There are multiple ways to test for drugs in a person's system. These include urine testing, hair testing, oral fluid testing, and blood testing. Alcohol testing can be conducted using a mouth swab, breath alcohol testing, and blood testing. When the test detects a minimum threshold level of a specified target substance, a positive result is returned.
