Definition - What does Recovery Pause mean?
A recovery pause is a short break in work flow designed to allow an employee to briefly rest. A recovery pause usually lasts less than five minutes, and may involve a period of inaction or a change in action that uses different muscle groups. These are especially useful for employees engaging in repetitive or highly physical work. A recovery pause may also be called a recovery period, micro break, microbreak, micro-break, or micropause.
SureHire explains Recovery Pause
A recovery pause is primarily used to provide respite for the muscle group that an employee is using to perform a repetitive task. These recovery pauses are in addition to regularly scheduled work breaks and should be taken before an employee experiences fatigue or discomfort. During a recovery pause, an employee might perform a different task, rest, change his or her position, or complete a brief set of stretches designed to relax a specific muscle group or groups.
Recovery pauses are most effective when they occur naturally during the work cycle or are performed at the employee's discretion, rather than being scheduled. Employees should be advised about the company policy on such pauses and encouraged to take these micro breaks, lasting one to three minutes, frequently in order to rejuvenate themselves throughout the work day and help prevent injury or a safety violation from fatigue.
