A person does not suffer from sleep hyperhidrosis if the sweating is caused by a normal response to environmental factors such as heavy bedclothes or an overheated room. Instead, sleep hyperhidrosis is an over-reaction of the body's sweat glands. To determine the specific cause of an individual's sleep hyperhidrosis, a medical evaluation may be required. A more common term for sleep hyperhidrosis is night sweats.
