Supination of the hand is an anatomical term of motion. Supination of the hand takes place when the forearm is rotated outward, causing the palm to forward, or anteriorly. Sometimes, the hand is said to be facing upward when it is in the supine position.

Supination is possible for either the hand or foot. Supination of the hand involves the use of the supinator muscle in the forearm. This muscle can become injured from overuse. Excessive or traumatic twisting and bending of the arm, such as in repetitive work without good ergonomic design, can cause pain. Additional supinator muscles of the arm also facilitate the twisting motion that turns the hand outward. The opposite motion, turning the palm of the hand to a posterior facing position, is called pronation of the hand.
